Inside Porsche's custom 718 Boxster S camera car from Leipzig

Porsche has lifted the curtain on a project that spent years off-camera: a bespoke 718 Boxster S repurposed as a camera car. Developed by nine trainees at the Leipzig plant, it first went to work in 2017, capturing promo footage and test drives at the Porsche Experience Leipzig center.

The standout change from a standard Boxster is the reworked front compartment, now set up to seat a camera operator. As Tarantas News clarified, the trunk features soft padding, a safety harness system, and a dedicated mounting point for equipment. The roof made way for a tall frame that acts as a rigid support for filming gear.

A matte black finish keeps unwanted reflections in check, while the cabin gains a dedicated platform with outlets and mounts for laptops. Combined with the reinforced structure and the Boxster’s finely balanced chassis, the setup turns the roadster into a remarkably stable shooting platform, keeping shake and vibration at bay—exactly what a professional crew hopes for.

The project underscores how Porsche channels its engineering craft beyond motorsport, building tools that help capture the brand’s best cars on camera. It feels like a natural use of the platform: purposeful, precise, and thoughtfully executed.
