China's auto market hits a record in October 2025 as EVs surge

China’s auto market posted a record October 2025, according to SPEEDME.RU’s analysis of industry reports. New-car sales climbed to historic highs, and BYD again led the field with 441,706 vehicles. Of those, 395,015 came from the Dynasty and Ocean families, 31,052 from the Fangchengbao brand, and 10,135 from Denza. The pecking order at the top looks increasingly settled as BYD stretches its cushion.

Geely also turned in an outstanding result—307,133 vehicles, up 35% year over year. The company’s electrified models surged 64%. Chery Group sold 281,000 vehicles and, for the first time, topped 110,000 pure electric cars. The center of gravity in the market is clearly shifting toward electric and electrified lineups.

Among newer marques, Leapmotor crossed the 70,000-unit mark for the first time. Close behind were HarmonyOS Smart Cars (Huawei) with 68,216 sales and Zeekr with 61,636—also a brand record. For upstarts, scale is arriving quickly, and their momentum is unmistakable.

XPeng reached 42,013 sales, while NIO delivered 40,397, nearly doubling its tally from a year earlier. Xiaomi Auto likewise sold more than 40,000 cars for the first time, reinforcing its position in the smart EV space. The mid-field is getting crowded, a sign of fiercer competition among high-tech electric models.

Among traditional automakers, Great Wall sold 143,100 vehicles and Li Auto 31,767. Even smaller names such as Avatr and Jishi reported brand records, underscoring how broad-based the October upswing was.
