2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV drops planned Digital Key update
Chevrolet originally planned to equip the 2026 model-year Silverado electric pickup with a Digital Key, allowing owners to lock or unlock the doors and start the vehicle directly from a smartphone.
The feature was scheduled to roll out via an over-the-air software update in December 2025 and, once activated, to integrate with the myChevrolet mobile app.
The idea promised convenient, contact-free use and modern remote control right from the phone screen. Still, availability was set to be selective: the system would be offered only on LT and Trail Boss trims, while the entry-level WT was not slated to support it—an approach that would have kept the base work truck more traditional in daily use.
Plans have since shifted. The expected December update was canceled by the manufacturer, and owners of the Chevrolet Silverado EV will continue relying on traditional physical keys for door access and starting, without the anticipated smartphone-based control.
