Vauxhall Astra Plug-in Hybrid and Sports Tourer: specs, range, price

Vauxhall has unveiled the new-generation Astra Plug-in Hybrid and Astra Sports Tourer, each fitted with a larger 17.2‑kWh battery that delivers up to 84 km of electric range. Combined output now reaches 195 hp and 360 Nm, bringing the kind of performance and efficiency the model simply didn’t offer before.

A new seven‑speed automated transmission and three driving modes — Hybrid, Sport and Electric — let drivers choose their balance of pace and frugality. Charging is straightforward: a 7.4 kW AC supply takes less than three hours, and a 9% BiK tax rate makes the car especially appealing to fleet buyers. On paper, it reads like a well-judged upgrade.

The flagship Astra GSE turns things up further: 225 hp, up to 80 km of electric range, and 0–100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. Its sports suspension with KONI’s Frequency Selective Damping and retuned steering promises keen responses without sacrificing comfort — the sort of tuning that should keep it composed on a twisty road yet friendly in daily use.

Inside, the Astra adopts the Pure Panel Pro digital cockpit, Intelli-Lux adaptive headlights, and AGR seats with power adjustment and Alcantara upholstery. Prices for the Astra GSE start at £38,795, with the Sports Tourer from £39,995, keeping the line-up more attainable than previous generations and well placed in its class.
