Full-scale LEGO Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 unveiled in South Africa
South Africa has unveiled an eye-catching LEGO project: a full-scale replica of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance. Built from 192,937 bricks, it stands as the largest LEGO creation ever brought to the country. Measuring 5.1 meters in length and 2.2 meters in width, the model weighs in at 913 kilograms—124 kilograms more than the real Formula 1 car. The figures alone turn a novelty into a spectacle, hinting at just how densely packed this build is.
The replica is based on the original LEGO Technic set of 1,642 pieces. A team of professional LEGO builders completed the full-size model in just eight hours, an outcome that underscores both planning and precision. The unveiling took place at the Mercedes-Benz Experience Centre at Zwartkops Raceway, a fitting backdrop for a machine born from both imagination and engineering rigor.
Valery Kasimov, Managing Director of LEGO South Africa, said the project reflects the creativity and innovation at the core of LEGO’s philosophy. The sentiment fits the build: it’s playful by nature, but executed with serious intent.
After its debut, the giant model is heading on a nationwide tour, stopping at some of the country’s largest shopping destinations, including Nelson Mandela Square, Gateway, V&A Waterfront, and Sandton City. The itinerary reads like a greatest-hits route for retail hubs, ensuring the car will meet a broad audience.
According to Claudius Steinhoff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa, the collaboration between LEGO and Mercedes-Benz demonstrates a shared pursuit of excellence, engineering precision, and a passion for innovation. The pairing feels natural, given both brands’ fixation on detail and the way they turn complex ideas into tangible, crowd-pleasing results.
