GM recall: GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV need passenger airbag wiring fix

General Motors has launched a recall targeting its most potent electric offerings—the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV—built from late July through late October 2025. The action addresses a wiring installation error that can affect the front passenger airbag.

According to Tarantas News, the issue traces back to supplier Yazaki North America. In the summer of 2025, one of the automated presses was taken offline, and wiring harnesses were produced with defects. As a result, the passive safety system might not deploy correctly in frontal impacts, creating a direct risk for passengers.

GM has initiated checks across the affected series and determined that some vehicles require new harnesses. Owners will receive official notifications and can have the work performed free of charge at any GMC dealership.

The company notes that the recall procedure fully restores factory safety parameters. And although the production window in question is narrow, the decision prioritizes caution: the Hummer EV remains one of the most advanced—and heaviest—electric models on sale, and safety expectations for vehicles like this are especially demanding. In a machine of this mass and capability, there’s no room for compromise in restraint systems, so a proactive fix feels like the only sensible route.
