Electric Volvo EX90 earns five Euro NCAP stars for safety
The electric Volvo EX90 lives up to the brand’s reputation: in Euro NCAP’s latest test cycle the model secured the full five stars and ranks among the safest cars of 2025. The SUV earned particularly strong marks for protecting adults and children, edging past most class rivals.
Volvo notes the EX90 is informed by more than half a century of real-world crash research — over 50,000 accidents and 80,000 participants. That trove feeds the company’s in-house safety benchmark, which often exceeds official requirements.
The EX90 is equipped with the Safe Space Technology suite: radars, cameras and lidars assemble a clear picture of the world around the car and help head off risky situations early. If a crash does occur, a strengthened body structure and a contemporary passenger-restraint system go to work.
One centerpiece is intelligent driver monitoring that can recognize fatigue or inattention and issue warnings. TIME included the system on its list of Best Inventions. Rounding out the set is an interior presence sensor able to detect movement as slight as a child’s breath.
The Volvo EX90 continues to collect awards, among them the World Luxury Car title. Thanks to OTA updates, its feature set will keep expanding for a long time — a reminder that safety and technology can advance in step rather than in trade-offs.
