GAC Pickup 01: an all-electric concept truck with a sliding steer-by-wire wheel
GAC has unveiled the Pickup 01, an all-electric concept truck that takes clear visual cues from the Tesla Cybertruck. Its futuristic stance blends hard-edged surfaces, oversized tires, and generous ground clearance with a stack of advanced tech. The intention is versatility: a machine for the weekday commute that won’t shy away from a mountain detour.
Underpinning the Pickup 01 is the GAC Adaptive Intelligent Architecture, a platform that can dynamically adjust the suspension, power delivery, and driving modes. This adaptive backbone hints at calmer road manners and added confidence when the pavement ends.
The interior follows the same angular, futuristic theme, and its standout feature is a steer-by-wire wheel that can slide from the left front seat to the right and back. The truck is also equipped with a driver-assistance system, digital mirrors, and hidden door handles. A dual-mode intelligent cockpit is designed to adapt fully to construction sites, mountainous routes, and city streets. The sliding steering setup comes across as a clever touch that points to real flexibility in daily use.
The electric pickup is scheduled to reach the market in 2027. Pricing has not been disclosed, and deliveries are planned beyond China, including Australia, Saudi Arabia, Chile, and Mexico. A rollout mapped for multiple regions at this stage suggests ambitions that go well past a design exercise.
