Suzuki recall: 2024 Vitara and SX4 S-Cross electric power steering software fix
Suzuki has announced a global recall of 15,890 units of the 2024 Vitara and SX4 S-Cross due to a potential failure of the electric power steering system. The control unit may mistakenly log a fault, after which the assist can shut off and steering effort increases noticeably. It’s the kind of hiccup that doesn’t immobilize a car, but a sudden loss of assist is unsettling and especially unwelcome in tight urban maneuvers.
In Germany, the KBA has identified 1,887 affected vehicles. So far, there have been no reports of incidents or crashes linked to the defect—a reassuring detail, even if it shouldn’t delay a fix.
The manufacturer has mandated a software update for the power steering control unit. The work is carried out free of charge at authorized Suzuki service centers, and the remedy itself is straightforward.
Suzuki isn’t imposing driving restrictions before a workshop visit, but advises owners to book the update as soon as possible to reduce the risk of an unexpected loss of assist on the move. Sensible advice: a quick service stop beats a heavy steering wheel at the worst moment.
