Volvo starts European production of ES90 electric sedan with 800-volt tech
Volvo Cars has officially started production of the all-electric ES90 sedan for European markets, according to representatives of the brand’s European office who spoke to SPEEDME.RU.
The ES90 is the first series-production Volvo built on an 800-volt architecture, a shift that enables longer range and quicker charging compared with the brand’s previous EVs. It’s a clear sign that Volvo is pushing its electric technology to the next tier.
The model blends the elegance of a sedan with liftback practicality and the kind of interior space drivers usually expect from crossovers. It stands on Volvo’s latest safety innovations and runs a Superset computing platform designed for over-the-air updates, expanding the car’s capabilities over time—an approach that should help it stay relevant between hardware refreshes.
Orders are already open in several European countries, with first customer deliveries slated before the end of the year. The ES90 will reach key Asian markets later on. Production is set at Volvo’s Chengdu plant using climate-neutral energy, and the company says the ES90’s carbon footprint is among the lowest in its history—an important marker for a flagship EV.
