Geely enters the Italian market with EX5 EV and Starray EM-i Super Hybrid

Geely Auto has taken a notable step in its European push, officially entering the Italian market through a partnership with Jameel Motors. To break the ice, the brand opted for a straightforward pairing tailored to local tastes: a city-friendly electric crossover and a hybrid for longer journeys, precisely where drivers still hesitate because of charging infrastructure and ingrained habits.

Front and center is the Geely EX5, a fully electric SUV with a claimed range of up to 425 km. The message is clear: a practical format aimed at everyday commutes and the demand for a no‑nonsense family EV. Alongside it, the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, can cover around 90 km on electricity alone, while its total WLTP range edges toward 1,000 km. That neatly targets range anxiety on road trips and the wish to trim fuel consumption without giving up conventional refueling. The lineup comes across as pragmatic and grounded rather than showy, the sort of strategy that tends to resonate with cautious first-time adopters.

The launch doubled as a brand statement at Teatro Alcione, with visual installations and a set by DJ Ellynora; part of the show was symbolically powered by the EX5’s battery. MasterChef Italia Season 14 winner Anna Zhang was named an ambassador for the model. At the event, Geely’s European team signaled that Italy is viewed as a key market and a springboard for broader regional growth, and the choice of a cultural venue with a familiar public figure suggests a keen read on how to speak to Italian audiences beyond spec sheets.
