2026 Ford Mustang Mach‑E refresh adds real rear-door handles and a GT California Special

Ford has unveiled the refreshed 2026 Mustang Mach‑E. The changes are minor, but the most tangible update is the addition of real handles on the rear doors, which previously were fitted only up front. The company says the move follows customer feedback from people who wanted a physical way to open the door while keeping the electronic latch button. It’s a small, everyday improvement that feels more meaningful than it looks on paper.

There’s also a new California Special built on the GT trim. It brings 20-inch gray wheels, an illuminated grille badge, distinctive hood graphics, and sport seats. The electric crossover uses a dual-motor setup rated at 480 hp and up to 950 Nm of torque, offering up to 450 km of range. The California Special treatment adds visual drama that suits the GT’s character without chasing gimmicks.

A few items shift to the options list: the front trunk and Rally-themed decorative elements are no longer standard. That change may irk some buyers, but the modest price cut helps soften the blow: the base version starts at $37,795, while the GT is $53,395.
