Engineers drive updated e-Power from Land’s End to John O’Groats without refueling

Nissan engineers drove a Qashqai e-Power hybrid from Land’s End to John O’Groats — an 837-mile journey — on a single tank of fuel, achieving 75mpg (3.8 l/100km). This beats the 67mpg achieved by a diesel Qashqai on the same route in 2007.

The e-Power uses a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine as a generator for a 1.8kWh battery, which powers a 201bhp electric motor. The latest «five-in-one» design integrates the motor, generator, inverter, increaser, and reducer into one compact unit, improving responsiveness.

The result exceeded the official 62.8mpg rating, showing the system’s real-world efficiency potential.
