GM to idle Flint Assembly Dec 24, 2025–Jan 26, 2026 for next-gen Silverado HD and Sierra HD

Production of the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD will be paused for roughly a month as General Motors prepares its Flint plant to build the next generation of heavy-duty pickups. The idle period will begin on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, and run through January 26, 2026, effectively extending the routine holiday shutdown.

GM said the Flint Assembly plant would be closed for an extended stretch to carry out scheduled maintenance and project work. The wording points to a substantial retooling phase, timed to compress disruption while the factory is between model cycles.

Flint currently turns out the Chevrolet Silverado HD, including the ZR2, ZR2 Bison, and Trail Boss versions, as well as the GMC Sierra HD, Sierra HD Denali, AT4X, and AT4X AEV. The breadth of trims underscores the site’s role as a cornerstone of GM’s heavy-duty lineup.

Flint Assembly is among GM’s oldest operating plants in North America, opened in 1947 and historically responsible for a wide range of body styles. Today it serves as a major hub for the company’s heavy-duty pickup production—heritage and scale that make it a logical venue for the shift to the new generation.
