Mini India launches the Cooper S Convertible: price, features, performance
Mini India has introduced the Cooper S Convertible at 5.85 million rupees (before options), making it the most affordable drop-top on the Indian market. It becomes the brand’s third launch in three months, following the JCW All4 and the Countryman SE All4.
On the outside, the convertible leans into classic cues with Union Jack-style taillights and a tailgate that folds down and supports up to 80 kg, effectively turning into a casual seat. The signature round headlights with DRLs, the red S badge, and the brand’s octagonal grille motif remain in place, while 18-inch wheels come standard. The blend of heritage touches and crisp detailing suits the brief.
Inside, the centerpiece is a round 9.4-inch OLED display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The front seats are power-adjustable, with a massage function for the driver, and the spec list includes a head-up display, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a rear-view camera. The fabric roof opens in 18 seconds and closes in 15, and can be operated at speeds up to 30 km/h; there’s also a partial-slide setting. Luggage space is quoted at 215 liters, or 160 liters with the roof stowed. The roof timings and flexibility suggest easy day-to-day use.
Performance is predictably lively: a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivers 204 hp and 300 Nm to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Mini claims 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 237 km/h. The figures point to eager responses and the kind of pace that makes open-top drives feel worthwhile.
