GWM Wey G9 hybrid MPV starts mass production in Malaysia
GWM’s premium minivan, the Wey G9, has entered mass production at EP Manufacturing’s facility in Malaysia after an extended period of preparation and testing. Although the company had previously targeted a market launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, the official start of sales in Malaysia has now been moved to early 2026. The shift looks pragmatic, giving the local line time to stabilize output before the first wave of deliveries.
Early buyers will be able to secure a car via preorders, with pricing set to come in below 300,000 Malaysian ringgit. For a newcomer in the premium MPV segment, that positioning suggests a calculated bid to draw families and corporate fleets without overreaching.
At launch, the Wey G9 will be offered in a short-wheelbase configuration measuring 5,050 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,900 mm in height, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase. This version is aimed primarily at Malaysia’s domestic market, while a long-wheelbase variant is earmarked for exports to neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. The strategy hints at a two-pronged approach: urban practicality at home, added cabin space where regional buyers tend to favor extra legroom.
Thanks to its hybrid setup, the Wey G9 can cover about 170 kilometers on electric power alone, with a total driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometers. For a family-oriented minivan, that combination reads as a reassuring buffer for daily commutes and longer weekend routes alike.
