Dongfeng Box vs Leapmotor T03: more range, space, value

A surprise contender has arrived on Europe’s urban EV market, edging past the popular Leapmotor T03 on several key counts. It’s the Dongfeng Box—a compact electric car that remains little-known, yet quickly draws attention for the balance it strikes between price and capability.

After a recent price cut, the Dongfeng Box comes in around €1,300 cheaper than the Leapmotor T03. With current promotions, it can be bought for under €15,600, placing it among the most accessible options in its class. At the same time, it’s the larger car, seats five, and offers a 326-liter trunk—unusual territory for a city EV.

Dongfeng takes an all-inclusive approach: the Box is sold in a single Plus trim, and even the standard equipment is what you’d expect from a higher segment. On comfort and electronic driver assists, it clearly outpaces many compact electric models.

The technical package is just as convincing. The Box uses an LFP battery with a capacity of 42.3 kWh and a 95-hp motor. Range is rated at 310 km on the WLTP cycle, and can reach up to 340 km in city driving—more than the Leapmotor T03, which matters for everyday use without frequent charging. Top speed is limited to 140 km/h, and 0–100 km/h takes 10.6 seconds—figures well suited to city and suburban routes.

Taken together, this is a rare case of an affordable EV without obvious compromises: for less money, it delivers more space, better day-to-day practicality, and a credible driving range. A quietly rational choice.
