Volkswagen unveils the production-ready ID. Polo electric hatch

At IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Volkswagen unveiled the production-ready ID. Polo—its first fully electric Polo—set to enter production in spring 2026. The storied hatchback now joins the MEB+ platform family, the latest evolution of the group’s modular architecture.

The ID. Polo will be offered with two battery options and three power outputs at launch, with a fourth to follow. A sport-focused ID. Polo GTI has also been announced, rated at 166 kW (226 hp) and scheduled for 2026. All versions will include DC fast charging as standard, and the starting price is positioned under €25,000 (around 2.4 million rubles), a clear signal that Volkswagen intends to keep the Polo’s broad appeal intact.

Key dimensions are as follows: length 4,053 mm, width 1,816 mm, height 1,530 mm, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. It remains compact yet accommodating—true to the Polo formula—while swapping in modern electric drive. On paper, that footprint should keep it city-friendly without feeling cramped.

According to SPEEDME.RU reporters on site, Volkswagen placed special emphasis on technology: the ID. Polo will receive a new-generation Travel Assist (with automatic lane changes and traffic-light recognition), Park Assist Plus with a memory function, and the Area View 360-degree camera system—features previously reserved for newer cars in higher segments. Moving such assistance systems into a small hatchback underscores a push to make advanced tech feel everyday.

The design follows the brand’s Pure Positive philosophy: clean surfaces, an expressive silhouette, and an emphasis on dynamism. At the same time, Volkswagen will keep the conventional Polo with an internal combustion engine on sale alongside the ID. Polo—a pragmatic two-track approach for markets transitioning at different speeds.

In 2025, the Polo marked its 50th anniversary, and since 1975 more than 20 million cars have been produced. With the electric version, the hatchback opens a new chapter of its story while preserving its mass-market accessibility.
