Maserati's crisis: Stellantis denies sale, pivots to exclusivity

Rumors about a potential sale of Maserati by parent group Stellantis continue to circulate in the car world, despite an official message from newly appointed CEO Antonio Filosa. He said the company was fully committed to all of its marques, premium names like Maserati included. The reassurance aimed to steady the narrative, yet the chatter clearly hasn’t faded.

To shape a long-term plan for renewed growth and better results at both Maserati and Alfa Romeo, management has brought in the consulting firm McKinsey. Analysts describe Maserati as being in a serious crisis, pointing to deep financial strain: the company has lost several hundred million euros and has seen its car sales cut in half. Figures like that tend to push even established brands toward uncomfortable decisions.

The core proposal to stabilize the situation is to sharply scale back production and lean harder into exclusivity and personalization across the lineup. The plan envisions limited-run, high-end editions, each defined by unique features and tailored interior and exterior treatments. On paper, scarcity and distinctiveness can rebuild desirability more effectively than chasing volume.
