Jeep confirms 2026 Cherokee return with hybrid lineup
Jeep has officially confirmed the return of the Cherokee, slated for the 2026 model year. Production of the new-generation crossover will begin at the Toluca plant in Mexico, and the first vehicles will reach North American dealers in early 2026. The model was discontinued in 2023, but a dip in sales prompted the brand to rethink its strategy and revive one of its cornerstone nameplates.
The new Jeep Cherokee has been developed from the ground up for the midsize crossover segment, with a clear emphasis on hybrid powertrains. The range is expected to be entirely hybrid, pairing a turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with electric motors for a combined output of about 210 horsepower. An eCVT automatic transmission is part of the package, and all-wheel drive will remain standard or widely available.
The claimed average fuel consumption is around 6.3 liters per 100 km, and driving range could reach up to 800 km. Inside, there will be large digital displays, the latest Uconnect infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and upgraded cabin materials.
In the United States, the starting price is expected to sit between $36,000 and $37,000, with top trims approaching $45,000. Positioned against the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR‑V, the Cherokee reenters a fiercely contested field; its expected all-hybrid approach and projected figures put it squarely among the contenders for 2026’s top SUV.
