Morris JE electric van to enter series production in Wales in 2026

The much-loved British van of the 1950s, the Morris JE, is making a comeback as an electric model. Morris Commercial has announced that series production will start at a new factory in Wales, a move set to create around 150 jobs. The project is backed by the Welsh Government through its economic development fund, a signal of support for cleaner technologies and local employment.

On the outside, the new Morris JE keeps the spirit of the original, including its distinctive front end, while its hardware is firmly up to date. The electric van is set to use an aluminum frame paired with a carbon structure, keeping weight down and strength up. The company quotes a single-charge range of about 400 km, a figure that should suit daily routes without constant charging stops.

The Morris JE will take on mid-size commercial rivals such as the Ford Transit Custom and VW ID. Buzz, with production scheduled to begin at the end of 2026. For small businesses, the prospect looks like an efficient, lower-impact workhorse with genuine heritage appeal—practical where it counts, yet memorable enough to stand out in a crowded fleet yard.
