GM confirms Apple CarPlay bug on Colorado and Canyon steering-wheel preset buttons

General Motors has acknowledged a software glitch affecting some of its midsize pickups: on certain 2023–2025 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon models, the left cluster of steering-wheel buttons that controls favorite radio presets can stop responding when Apple CarPlay is active. The issue isn’t constant, so it tends to catch drivers off guard: you press a button and nothing happens, even though the infotainment system itself continues to work as usual.

In a dealer bulletin, GM notes that no diagnostic trouble codes are logged, which points to an interaction between CarPlay and the vehicle’s firmware rather than a hardware fault. The key takeaway for owners is not to replace any parts yet: GM says engineers are still investigating and preparing a definitive fix.

For 2025 trucks, dealers already have an initial adjustment procedure, while Colorado and Canyon models from 2023–2024 will have to wait for a finalized repair protocol that covers all years. The company characterizes the behavior as an annoyance rather than a safety issue: driving is unaffected and overall functionality remains intact. In practice, it’s the unpredictability that will likely frustrate owners the most.

If the problem reappears, the sensible move is to document it with a Chevrolet or GMC dealer so the service department can confirm the symptoms and, if an update is available, install it.
