Changan Ford recalls Ford Escort in China over fuel filler hose leak
In China, Changan Ford has launched a recall for the Ford Escort sedan, citing regulations on defective products alongside specific rules covering environmentally related recalls. The trigger is a potential fuel leak at the junction between the filler hose and the fuel tank, a fault viewed both as a safety hazard and as an issue affecting emissions.
Filed under recall number E2025M0202V, the action covers cars built from February 27, 2018, to May 9, 2019, totaling 38,473 vehicles. The root cause is described as a design and process issue: stress may concentrate in a localized area of the rubber seal where the filler hose meets the tank. Prolonged exposure to environments with high ozone levels can accelerate material aging and lead to hose cracking. In extreme cases, that can result in fuel seeping to the outside and an actual leak, increasing fire risk and contributing to emissions.
The remedy follows a familiar playbook. Changan Ford will replace the filler hose with an updated part at no cost through its dealer network, and the manufacturer will notify owners in the near term. The approach combines safety and environmental compliance, and the failure mode neatly illustrates how real-world conditions can expose a weak point in materials and interfaces.
