Elon Musk hints at hidden capabilities in Tesla Cybercab
Tesla chief Elon Musk said on January 2, 2026, that the autonomous Cybercab has capabilities not yet obvious to the public. In a social media post, he indicated the model includes far more functionality than is apparent at first glance.
Cybercab was first revealed in October 2024 at the We, Robot event in Los Angeles. It is a fully driverless vehicle designed for ride-hailing services, built without a steering wheel or pedals. The cabin is set up for one or two passengers, matching the typical headcount for most ride-hailing trips and keeping the concept tightly aligned with its intended role.
The car features a central display with entertainment functions and supports wireless charging. Production is planned to begin later in 2026. Tesla presents the model as a key growth project as the company shifts its focus toward artificial intelligence and robotics—an emphasis that naturally puts the software experience front and center.
According to Musk, Cybercab is meant to deliver a fully autonomous user experience, covering climate control and built-in safety systems. Additional features remain undisclosed, and the company may share more as mass production approaches.
Cybercab will be a standalone product in Tesla’s lineup and used for autonomous rides, placing it in the urban EV category and positioning it as part of the company’s strategy for new vehicles slated for 2026. The clear separation within the lineup helps set expectations around the car’s purpose and everyday use.
