1977 Smokey and the Bandit Pontiac Trans Am SE heads to Mecum Kissimmee 2026
The 1977 Pontiac Trans Am SE, a screen icon thanks to Smokey and the Bandit, is headed to the block at Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee, Florida, in 2026. This Trans Am comes out of a meticulous restoration and retains its original 6.6-liter L78 V8 with the W72 Performance package paired to a four-speed manual.
Finished in Starlight Black with gold striping and graphics to match the movie car, it looks every inch the star. The spec includes removable roof panels, a gold-finished Formula steering wheel, a cassette stereo, and signature Snowflake wheels wrapped in Goodyear tires.
The sale also bundles in distinctive memorabilia: the Bandit’s cowboy hat, a red jacket, and a wedding veil styled after Sally Field’s character. The car’s on-screen fame sparked a sensation; by 1979, Trans Am sales topped the Camaro for the first time, with more than 117,000 units built.
This Pontiac Trans Am stands as more than a muscle car—it’s a slice of 1970s cultural heritage. Its condition, historical weight, and film connection make it a compelling target for collectors, and the appetite for machines like this only keeps growing. It’s a rare chance to bring home a legend.
