Honda Super-ONE prototype debuts: bold purple EV with Boost Mode and simulated gearbox

Honda has unveiled the Super-ONE Prototype in its production color—a rich, saturated purple conceived to catch the eye of younger drivers. The compact EV is edging toward series production and blends bold styling with a few tech-forward flourishes.

Design and concept

The purple finish underlines the Super-ONE’s attitude: flared arches, an aggressive stance, and proportions closer to a pint-size sports car than a traditional kei car. The wheels sit at the very corners, a choice meant to improve stability and sharpen responses on the road. Honda is aiming at buyers who prioritize style and emotion over sheer practicality.

Inside, you’ll find sport seats, vivid accents, and a minimalist, horizontally oriented instrument panel. The Super-ONE becomes the first mini Honda to offer a Bose audio system with individualized tuning. The headline feature is Boost Mode: it increases output and, through Active Sound Control, simulates the soundtrack of an internal-combustion engine. For enthusiasts of virtual performance driving, there’s also a seven-speed simulated "gearbox."

Markets and outlook

The model will be sold under different names: Super-ONE in Japan and across Asia, and Super-N in the United Kingdom. The UK, however, remains a questionable fit, as local buyers tend to favor larger, more overtly sporty models. Honda hasn’t disclosed power figures yet, but the Super-ONE is positioned to feel lively.

All told, the Super-ONE is a daring bet for Honda in the compact EV space. Its punchy design, playful attitude, and distinctive features give it real presence among city-focused electric cars, and it’s set to be one of the year’s most talked-about debuts.
