Toyota Hilux BEV electric pickup: range, powertrain, off-road tech and EU launch details
Toyota has officially unveiled its first electric pickup—the Hilux BEV. The longtime workhorse of global markets now runs on a fully electric powertrain, keeps its body-on-frame construction and off-road character, and adds a distinctly more modern edge.
Range and powertrain
The Hilux BEV carries a 59.2 kWh battery and offers up to 257 km of WLTP range, or up to 380 km in the city. Two electric motors deliver all-wheel drive and 473 Nm of torque, enabling a 715 kg payload and towing of up to 1.6 tonnes. Electric power steering appears on the Hilux for the first time and improves behavior off-road—a welcome change for everyday use.
Off-road capability
Beyond its familiar 212 mm of ground clearance and the ability to wade up to 700 mm, the Hilux BEV adds a new Multi-Terrain Select system. Electronics fine-tune traction, braking, and power delivery to suit the surface, helping offset the lack of a traditional drivetrain and making the truck feel more composed where it counts.
Interior and equipment
The cabin follows Toyota’s latest design language with two 12.3-inch displays, advanced infotainment, and styling in the spirit of the newest Land Cruiser. The electric version doesn’t give up on utility and stays practical, yet it looks markedly more contemporary than its predecessors—exactly what this format has been missing.
Markets and timing
European sales of the Hilux BEV begin in April 2026. A 48V hybrid version arrives in July. The model won’t reach the U.S.: the Hilux isn’t officially sold there, and the industry’s shift toward EREV solutions further dampens the prospects for BEV pickups.
