New 2026 Jeep Cherokee debuts with hybrid powertrain
Jeep has officially brought the Cherokee back after a two-year pause. The first examples of the new generation have arrived at U.S. dealers, signaling the start of a new phase for one of the brand’s most recognizable nameplates.
New design and platform
The 2026 Cherokee is built on the STLA Large architecture, already used in other Stellantis models, including the Wagoneer S. The crossover’s look has become notably more angular, in step with current SUV design trends. This shift brings the Cherokee closer in spirit to the latest Land Cruiser and Santa Fe, giving it a tougher, more outdoorsy stance that reads as purposeful rather than nostalgic.
Hybrid instead of classic engines
Under the hood sits a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine paired with two electric motors. The system delivers 210 hp and 230 Nm, sending torque to all four wheels through an eCVT. Jeep estimates a combined range of up to 800 km, which positions the model for long trips and efficient everyday use. The emphasis is clearly on range and calm efficiency rather than headline-grabbing numbers—those who favor traditional powertrains may miss them, but the intent here is unambiguous.
Trims and pricing
The first delivered vehicles come in the Limited trim, which slots between the base Cherokee and Laredo and the flagship Overland. The new Jeep Cherokee starts at $35,000 before destination, placing it right where many shoppers will be weighing value against capability.
The new Jeep Cherokee is a measured reboot for 2026. With hybrid hardware, a modern platform, and a refreshed design, the brand is betting on versatility and efficiency—even if that means a final farewell to the familiar engines of the past.
