BMW charging trees at BMW Welt redefine ultra-fast EV charging

BMW is turning EV charging into a signature part of the brand experience. On the grounds of BMW Welt in Munich, a new park of fast‑charging stations has gone live, styled as so‑called charging trees by the Designworks division.

The complex brings together eight ultra‑fast chargers, seamlessly integrated into the center’s architecture. The finishes mirror the BMW Welt facade, while the paving mixes concrete and terrazzo. Benches and flower zones sit alongside the bays to give drivers a place to pause, and in winter the walkways are kept ice‑free as heat from the charging process is routed into underground channels to prevent freezing.

Although BMW does not specify peak output, the company says the site enables high‑power charging in as little as 15 minutes. Payment works with a card or a smartphone via NFC. The first model in the spotlight is the new second‑generation BMW iX3, which supports a 400 kW peak thanks to its 800‑volt architecture and offers up to 805 km of WLTP range.

This is a clear example of how charging can stop being a compulsory wait and become part of a brand’s identity. Aesthetics, technology, and customer comfort come together in a way that feels cohesive. It would not be surprising to see similar solutions in other cities, where the goal is not only to recharge quickly but to do it in surroundings that are pleasant to linger in.
