Jeep's $25,000 electric Renegade canceled in the U.S.
Stellantis has officially abandoned plans to bring an affordable Jeep electric vehicle priced around $25,000 to the U.S. market. This decision affects the electric version of the Jeep Renegade, which was previously promised to debut "soon."
Original Plans
During its 2024 Investor Day, Stellantis announced three new electric vehicles for North America. These included the Wagoneer S and Recon EV, both already on sale, along with a compact electric Renegade with a starting price below $25,000. At the time, then-CEO Carlos Tavares described the project as a key step toward the mass market.
Why the Project Was Canceled
At the Detroit Auto Show, Stellantis leadership confirmed that the electric Renegade for the U.S. is no longer under consideration. The company cited shifting consumer demand and revised government policies, including the elimination of the $7,500 federal EV subsidy. Instead, the brand will focus on hybrids and extended-range models.
New Priorities
Sales figures revealed weak U.S. market interest in Stellantis electric models. Last year, fewer than 11,000 Jeep Wagoneer S units and just over 7,000 electric Dodge Chargers were sold in the U.S. Against this backdrop, betting on a budget EV was deemed unjustified. The company hasn't ruled out a more affordable Jeep in the future, but it would likely feature a hybrid or gasoline powertrain.
