Stellantis cancels electric Ram 1500, shifts to 1500 REV hybrid

Stellantis, the company behind the Ram brand, has canceled development of the electric Ram 1500, pointing to waning demand for EVs. The announcement surprised enthusiasts and analysts alike, especially since the promising pickup had been unveiled back in 2023 with hopes of hitting showrooms in 2024. As supply slowed and market dynamics shifted, production was pushed to 2027—and then the project was shelved entirely.

That doesn’t mean a full retreat from electrification. Ram will press ahead with a hybrid pickup featuring a gasoline generator, now called the 1500 REV. It’s slated to go on sale next year and is pitched as a new benchmark for half-ton trucks, with standout range and payload. The direction feels pragmatic: it leans into how many truck owners actually use their vehicles, while keeping the promise of efficiency on the table.

The move from Stellantis mirrors a broader reset in North America’s EV demand. Other automakers, including Ford, have also postponed launches of electric models, a sign of wider turbulence in the market rather than an isolated course correction.

With this revised game plan, the company aims to adapt to the moment and deliver practical solutions that blend electric capability with conventional power. In a cautious market, flexibility often speaks louder than purity—and this strategy seems designed to meet buyers where they are.
