Hyundai recalls 84,000 vehicles due to instrument panel safety risk
A major recall has been announced for Hyundai in the United States, affecting nearly 84,000 vehicles. These cars require a fix due to a potential failure of the instrument panel. The display could stop showing critical information, including speed and fuel level, which poses a direct safety risk.
The Reason for the Recall
Affected vehicles are experiencing a software malfunction in the multimedia unit. As a result, the instrument panel might fail to display key driving parameters, making vehicle operation less predictable. This is why the NHTSA demanded prompt action from the manufacturer.
The issue is purely software-related, which allowed Hyundai to quickly propose a solution without replacing hardware. For the company, this isn't the first time it has corrected functionality through OTA updates, but in this case, the failures directly impact driving safety.
How Hyundai Is Addressing the Problem
The manufacturer will update the software of the audio-video-navigation system. Owners can receive the fix remotely via OTA or visit a dealer, where the update will be installed free of charge. This approach allows the problem to be resolved as quickly as possible without overwhelming service centers.
