Nissan Tekton compact crossover debuts in 2025 for affordable SUV market

Following the news of Nissan selling its Rosslyn plant to Chery, the manufacturer has assured local customers that it will remain in the market and release several new models within the year. The key debut will be the Tekton, a compact crossover first shown in 2025 and designed specifically for emerging markets.

New Model Built on Renault Duster Base

The Tekton is developed on the CMF-B platform, shared with the Renault Duster. This means identical dimensions: about 4.34 meters in length, nearly 1.92 meters in width, and a wheelbase of 2,657 mm. In practice, this is a vehicle that replicates the Duster's architecture but is styled in Nissan's fashion and positioned as a new standalone model. This approach allows the company to quickly fill the niche for affordable SUVs in the region.

Debut Date

The official premiere is scheduled for early February. In India, the Tekton will hit the market in mid-year, after which it will appear in South Africa. Nissan plans to maintain affordability and offer the car as an alternative to more expensive urban crossovers.

Technical Details

According to preliminary data, for South Africa, the Tekton will get two familiar engines. The first is a 1.3-liter turbo engine with 113 kW and 250 Nm, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The second is a 1.2-liter hybrid with a combined output of about 96 kW and 230 Nm, where power is delivered to all wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This makes the Tekton a direct functional analog to the Duster, but with a "Japanese" positioning.
