Ferrari Dino 206 S, one of 18 built, up for auction in Paris
RM Sotheby's is auctioning one of the rarest racing Ferraris in Paris: the Dino 206 S. This particular car, chassis #032, is the final example of a model of which Ferrari built only 18 units, far short of the 50 originally planned for homologation. The price is undisclosed, with bids being accepted confidentially.
Introduced in 1966, the Dino 206 S was designed to compete in the FIA's Sport 2.0-litre class, aiming to challenge the dominance of privateer Porsches in endurance racing. Featuring a mid-engine layout and compact dimensions, the model made its mark in the 1966 season with a second-place finish at the Targa Florio, along with notable performances at the Nürburgring and Spa.
Chassis #032 is one of just 13 Spyder variants bodied by Piero Drogo, and one of only two equipped with the more powerful V6 Tipo 233 S engine. This unit features Lucas mechanical fuel injection, delivering around 270 horsepower from its 2.0-liter displacement. The car competed in the 1967 1000 km of Mugello race.
Its first owner was Corrado Ferlaino, who later became president of Napoli during the Maradona era. After an accident in the early 2000s, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive restoration between 2014 and 2015 at Ferrari Classiche, where it received a Red Book certification. Today, the Dino sports a Rosso Corsa #28 livery.
