Range Rover Evoque assembly begins at new Tata Motors plant in India
Jaguar Land Rover has announced that starting February 9, assembly of its popular Range Rover Evoque crossover will begin at a newly built Tata Motors facility in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The investment in constructing this new plant totals approximately $994 million.
The facility is designed with an annual production capacity of up to 250,000 vehicles. This new site will help alleviate the workload on the company's existing production lines at its Pune plant.
Initially, the company will produce a limited batch of fewer than 10,000 Range Rover Evoque SUVs. These vehicles will be supplied exclusively to the domestic Indian market, where the British brand aims to strengthen its position against competition from popular European premium brands, particularly those of German origin. Localizing production significantly reduces vehicle costs, making them more accessible to local buyers.
Looking ahead, plant management intends to expand the range of models produced by adding new trim levels and vehicle modifications. The possibility of exporting assembled vehicles to external markets and producing electric versions is also under consideration, aligning with Jaguar Land Rover's broader electric mobility development strategy.
