Honda Insight returns as an electric coupe-crossover in 2026

Honda is reviving the Insight nameplate, but with a completely new format. Instead of a hybrid sedan, the company will introduce an electric coupe-crossover, set to launch in Japan in 2026. This new model has no connection to previous generations and is focused on expanding the brand's electric lineup.

The new Honda Insight is based on the Honda e:NS2 electric crossover, which is already sold in China through the Dongfeng Honda joint venture. For the Japanese market, the model will get a different name but retain the technical foundation and design.

In terms of dimensions, the Insight is noticeably larger than the old sedan: length is about 4.79 m, width is 1.84 m, and height is 1.57 m. The car is longer than the Honda CR-V but lower, emphasizing its coupe-like silhouette. This format places it closer to the segment of city-focused electric vehicles with an emphasis on design and aerodynamics.

The expected price in Japan ranges from 5.5 to 6 million yen. With government subsidies, the cost could drop to around 4 million yen. Pre-orders are planned to open in mid-March, with the official debut and sales start scheduled for April. Initially, production volumes will be limited.

The return of the Insight is seen as a regional project. For example, its appearance in the U.S. is unlikely due to its Chinese origins, market specifics, and certification requirements.
