Volvo expands recall for 2017 S60L door latch issue

Volvo Car USA has expanded a recall campaign affecting 2017 model year Volvo S60L sedans. According to information obtained from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by SPEEDME.RU, an additional 2,758 vehicles produced between November 2016 and April 2017 are now included.

The recall addresses a defect in the side door latches. Under prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures, the latch can weaken, and a spring's locking component may fail. This could prevent the door from latching properly or, in the worst-case scenario, cause it to open while driving.

Volvo notes that the potential risk is particularly relevant during maneuvers like reversing or navigating roundabouts. If a passenger is unbelted, the consequences could be more severe. In most cases, owners notice the issue early due to difficulty closing the door. If a door doesn't latch correctly, a warning indicator lights up on the instrument panel.

This campaign expands on a previous NHTSA recall. In late 2025, Volvo received additional reports, leading to an internal investigation that uncovered an error in the chassis range determination. That error initially excluded some vehicles from the program. In January 2026, the company decided to broaden the recall.

As part of the campaign, all affected vehicles will receive free replacements of all four door latches with upgraded, reinforced components. The improved latch version was introduced into production starting in week 47 of 2016.

Owner notifications will begin mailing on February 23, 2026. A VIN check is already available. The manufacturer reports no accidents or injuries related to this defect.
