Porsche ends gasoline Boxster and Cayman as EVs debut in 2026
The era of gasoline Porsche Boxster and Cayman is drawing to a close. Next month, the final combustion-powered cars will leave the factory line, and their electric successors are slated to debut in 2026. Even with the EV market growing more slowly than expected, Porsche is convinced that shifting its sports cars to electric power is the right direction.
Frank Moser, vice president for the 718 and 911 model lines, noted that the upcoming cars would be light and powerful, delivering the refined balance enthusiasts expect from the brand’s two-door sports cars. He did not shut down rumors about a possible gasoline 718, yet emphasized that the company’s official strategy points squarely to all-electric drivetrains.
The next Boxster and Cayman will be built on a dedicated platform developed in tandem with other Volkswagen Group projects. Porsche aims to preserve its signature dynamics, while advances in battery technology are expected to cut weight without compromising performance—a clear attempt to keep the driving character familiar even as the power source changes.
