Five simple maintenance rules to keep your car running longer

A car’s lifespan hinges not only on build quality but also on how it’s treated day to day. Bad habits and cutting corners on maintenance often end in breakdowns that are easy to avoid. Speaking with 32CARS.RU, a mechanic outlined five rules that help keep a vehicle in good shape for longer.

First and foremost is regular oil changes. Oil degrades faster than many expect, and the sweet spot is every 8–10,000 km or once a year. Second, refuel only at trusted stations: questionable fuel can take out injectors and the pump. Third, keep the engine in the right rev range; both lugging and constantly driving at the limit are equally harmful.

Fourth, avoid nothing but short hops: when the engine isn’t warmed up, oil doesn’t protect as it should, accelerating wear. Fifth, book regular visits to the shop. Even if the car shows no warning signs, it’s worth having key systems checked once a year.

In my view, these straightforward steps don’t demand big spending yet can noticeably extend a car’s service life and spare the owner avoidable repair bills.
