Scout Motors responds to SUV production delay reports

Scout Motors has responded to a report from German publication Der Spiegel, which claimed production of the new Terra and Traveler SUVs could be delayed until summer 2028. According to sources cited by the outlet, the project is allegedly facing technical challenges, making earlier timelines now appear unlikely.

The company quickly countered, stating there have been no official changes to the schedule yet. A Scout representative noted that no new updates on timing or product strategy are planned. As reported by Tarantas News, the brand's website still lists production as expected to begin in 2027, though it notes that timelines may be adjusted as the project develops.

Scout highlights progress on multiple fronts: development of the Terra and Traveler models is advancing on schedule, construction of the South Carolina plant is proceeding as planned, and the supplier network is being actively established. The 1,100-acre production complex in Blythewood is being built from the ground up, much like the vehicles themselves, which do not share existing Volkswagen Group platforms.

For the market, a starting price has already been announced—under $60,000. The company is accepting refundable $100 reservations for all-electric versions, as well as for variants with a gasoline generator. The electric models promise up to 350 miles (approximately 563 km) of range, with extended-range versions offering over 500 miles (more than 805 km). These new models are targeting the large North American SUV segment.

Despite the discrepancy between sources and official statements, industry analysts point out that timing remains a sensitive aspect of the project.
