Tesla FSD Supervised system recognizes human gestures in European road tests

Tesla has released a video showcasing tests of its FSD Supervised system on European roads. During these trials, the system demonstrated its ability to recognize and respond to human gestures just as a human driver would. According to Elon Musk, the autopilot can now correctly interpret traffic controllers' signals.

As described in the FSD v14.2 update, engineers have optimized the neural network visual encoder, enhancing the detail of image processing. This improvement has led to better recognition of emergency vehicles, road obstacles, and human gestures. In one test, the car proceeded through a red light under a police officer's direction without requiring driver intervention.

In other scenarios, FSD responded appropriately to "proceed" signals after coming to a complete stop at a STOP sign and even interpreted another driver's gesture permitting a maneuver at an intersection. The system operated smoothly, without abrupt braking or delays. The development of such features strengthens Tesla's position in the segment of vehicles with advanced driving assistants. Recognizing human signals represents a significant step toward more natural interaction between autonomous systems and the real-world driving environment.

If the technology performs reliably in complex scenarios, it marks serious progress for autonomous systems. However, the key issue remains the certification and legal status of such solutions in different countries.
