Volvo opens preorders for the 2026 EX90 with 800-volt charging

Volvo has opened preorders for the updated 2026-model-year EX90. The headline change is a switch to an 800-volt electrical architecture, which enables much faster charging: up to 250 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes when connected to a 350 kW station. The setup runs cooler, improves efficiency, and trims weight from the power unit—an upgrade that reshapes daily use rather than just spec sheets.

The Swedish flagship also gets a major overhaul of its computing platform. The EX90 now fits two NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin chips rated at 500 TOPS, creating room for more sophisticated safety algorithms, driver-support functions, and battery management. Owners of the 2025 EX90 will be able to have the vehicle’s brain upgraded free of charge at a service center, a move that hints at a long-term software roadmap rather than a one-off bump.

New functions include the ESA system, which, if the driver is incapacitated, gently brings the vehicle to a stop and automatically contacts emergency services via e-call. Capabilities for automated maneuvers at night have been expanded, Park Pilot adds parallel parking, and the Connected Safety suite has been updated with warnings about slippery roads and obstacles—features that collectively aim to lower stress in poor visibility and on challenging surfaces.

Inside, there’s a new electrochromic panoramic roof that lets occupants adjust the glass transparency. The infotainment system also supports OTA updates, including improved charging control—small quality-of-life touches that tend to matter most after months of ownership.

Taken together, the 2026 Volvo EX90 brings three key upgrades—faster charging, higher computing power, and expanded safety features—placing it among the most technologically advanced premium electric crossovers.
