Ford Explorer EV ranks 11th in Europe as EV share hits 20.2%

Fresh figures from JATO Dynamics show that in August the Ford Explorer EV ranked 11th among all new electric cars in Europe. Sales reached 3,379 units, an 88% increase on the same month last year. That’s a clear step up from its 20th-place standing in the first half of 2025, suggesting the model is starting to find firmer footing.

At the front of the pack were three familiar names: Tesla Model Y led with 8,330 cars sold in August, followed by the Skoda Elroq at 6,450 and the Tesla Model 3 with 6,382. The pecking order underscores how the Model Y continues to set the pace, while Skoda’s newcomer is already holding its own.

Looking at the broader European new-car market, August tallied 790,177 sales, up 5% year over year. Electric vehicles did the heavy lifting: sales climbed 27% to 159,746, pushing their market share up by 3.5% to 20.2% for the month—a new high. Over the first eight months of 2025, buyers in Europe registered 1.54 million new electric cars.
