Ford Mustang GTD reopens applications for exclusive supercar
Ford is offering a second chance for enthusiasts to acquire one of the most extreme Mustangs in history. The company will reopen applications for the GTD model, though access remains strictly limited.
The new application phase launches on April 17 in the U.S. This date is significant—it marks the anniversary of the original Mustang's debut at the 1964 New York Auto Show.
The purchasing process is still exclusive: potential customers must submit an application and undergo selection, with Ford ultimately deciding who gets to buy the car.
The GTD is essentially a road-legal adaptation of a GT3-class race car. Under the hood lies a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 815 horsepower.
It features an advanced suspension with adaptive dampers, a perfect 50:50 weight distribution, and extensive use of carbon fiber. Together, these elements make it one of the most technologically advanced Mustangs ever built.
Production is limited and spread over roughly three years, with a starting price exceeding $300,000. Even having the funds doesn't guarantee a purchase—Ford handpicks its customers.
In the end, the Mustang GTD transcends mere transportation to become a status product. This is a rare instance of a mass-market brand crafting a supercar with exclusivity rivaling that of Ferrari or Porsche.
