Smart #2 electric car: new details on range and design

Smart has revealed new details about the compact electric Smart #2, which will succeed the iconic Smart Fortwo. The model will keep its urban two-seater format but will feature a modern electric platform and a significantly increased range.

The Smart #2 will be built on the Electric Compact Architecture (ECA). It will retain ultra-compact dimensions, a two-door body, and the characteristic layout with wheels at the corners. A key improvement will be autonomy: it will notably exceed the figures of the previous Smart EQ Fortwo, which offered about 133 km in the WLTP cycle.

The new model will get an updated design with a vibrant color palette, including pastel shades and several new expressive colors. The brand intends to maintain the recognizable silhouette that has become Smart's hallmark over the last decades.

An interesting detail is the question of practicality. According to brand representatives, the trunk will become more spacious, and the layout may offer additional possibilities, although officially the Smart #2 will remain a two-seater car.

The model's premiere is expected in 2026, likely at the Beijing auto show, with sales in Europe starting in early 2027. With the launch of the Smart #2, the brand essentially returns to its original concept of compact urban cars, betting on electric vehicles and the urban mobility format.
