GM re-enters Turkish market with Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, and Corvette
After nearly a decade away, General Motors is making a comeback in the Turkish market through a new partnership with local distributor Tur Oto. The deal will see the return of Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, and Corvette models, with the Corvette brand set to be marketed separately.
Unlike its previous approach, GM isn't aiming to compete in the mass-market segment this time around. Instead, the focus is squarely on premium and niche models that offer higher profit margins.
This move aligns with GM's global strategy, which has seen the company scale back in challenging markets to concentrate on its core operations in the United States, China, and South Korea.
Tur Oto will handle all aspects of the business, including sales, service, parts supply, and warranty support. With its established infrastructure and market experience, the distributor helps mitigate risks for GM's re-entry.
The Turkish market remains difficult due to currency volatility and high import duties. However, the premium segment has shown resilience, and that's precisely where GM is placing its bet, targeting demand from affluent customers.
