Renault 4 and 5 E-Tech achieve top Green NCAP environmental scores
The Renault 4 E-Tech and Renault 5 E-Tech have earned a top five-star rating from Green NCAP, cementing their status as among the most environmentally friendly cars on the market. These models achieved high scores for clean emissions, energy efficiency, and overall carbon footprint.
Why Renault Models Topped the Charts
The Renault 5 scored 9.1 out of 10 for air cleanliness and 9.3 for energy efficiency, while the Renault 4 received a 9.4 on the Clean Air metric. Both models also achieved maximum ratings for greenhouse gas emissions, factoring in their full life cycle from production to disposal. An added advantage is their support for bidirectional charging, which broadens the use cases for electric vehicles.
How They Stack Up Against Competitors
Other cars participated in the same test. The hybrid Dacia Bigster and the electric Cadillac Optiq each earned 3.5 stars, showing similar environmental performance. However, the Cadillac electric car fell short in efficiency due to its weight and slow charging time—taking up to 40 minutes to go from 10% to 80%.
Surprising Outcomes in the Segment
The mild-hybrid Citroen C3 also scored 3.5 stars, but the popular Dacia Sandero didn't even reach three stars, posting a 59% rating. The reason lies in its relatively high fuel consumption and weak emissions control during cold starts, which drags down its overall environmental rating.
Conclusion
Green NCAP results indicate that electric vehicles are setting the standard for eco-friendliness, though the gap with hybrids is narrowing. Meanwhile, even popular budget models can lag behind more technologically advanced solutions, shifting how buyers approach car selection.
