Honda Super-ONE: compact electric vehicle with sporty drive and boost mode

Honda has announced plans to launch sales of the compact electric vehicle Honda Super-ONE in Japan in late May 2026. Ahead of its local market debut, Honda will begin accepting pre-orders at Honda Cars dealerships across Japan starting Thursday, April 16, 2026.

The Super-ONE was developed as a compact A-segment EV designed to transform daily commutes into an engaging and inspiring experience through multiple features that enhance passenger comfort. The name Super-ONE reflects Honda's ambition to create a vehicle that transcends traditional EV norms and mini-vehicle standards (the "super" aspect) while offering unique Honda advantages for customers (the "one-of-a-kind" element).

This model delivers a sporty yet stable and dynamic ride, thanks to a lightweight platform refined from the N-series models and a wide wheelbase with increased tread.

A specialized chassis with expanded tread has increased the vehicle's overall width compared to the N-series models. A slim battery is positioned centrally in the floor, concentrating heavy components in one area and lowering the center of gravity. As a result, the vehicle weighs 1,090 kg (2,403 lbs), one of the lightest figures in its class among all passenger EVs available in Japan, with a center of gravity lower than that of conventional compact gasoline cars. These characteristics give the Super-ONE high responsiveness to driver inputs.

Moreover, the reduced weight contributes to high energy efficiency, enabling a WLTC range of 274 km (170 miles). With this range, the Super-ONE combines practicality for daily use with driving enjoyment.

The Super-ONE will be available in five body colors, including Boost Violet Pearl—a new shade developed specifically for this model. This rich violet hue, inspired by blue jet aircraft and upper-atmospheric lightning streaking into space, is meant to evoke a sense of exhilaration.

Sports seats designed exclusively for this model securely hold the driver in a stable position, while asymmetrical blue trim adds a playful touch to the interior. Additionally, a horizontally oriented instrument panel allows the driver to focus entirely on driving.

The Super-ONE features a BOOST mode developed specifically for this model to make driving even more thrilling. BOOST mode increases maximum output power from 47 kW in normal mode to 70 kW, allowing the motor to deliver its full potential for powerful, sharp acceleration.

Furthermore, by synchronizing a simulated 7-speed transmission that replicates the feel of shifting a traditional multi-gear transmission with an active sound management system that generates and plays a potent "virtual" engine sound inside the cabin in response to driver actions via the accelerator and brake pedals, the Super-ONE lets drivers experience the sensation of piloting a sports car with an internal combustion engine while retaining EV benefits. Also, with BOOST mode engaged, drivers can shift gears using steering wheel paddle shifters, making the drive even more engaging.

Standard equipment on the Super-ONE includes a Bose Premium Sound System with eight speakers. Developed in collaboration with BOSE Corporation, this system is optimized for the Super-ONE's cabin. It will be the first compact Honda model in Japan to feature a BOSE sound system.

Before pre-orders begin on April 16, the Super-ONE will be showcased at Honda's booth at AUTOMOBILE COUNCIL 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from April 10 to 12, 2026.
