2026 Isuzu MU-X adds 2.2L turbo-diesel and start-stop

The design and equipment of the 2026 Isuzu MU-X remain largely unchanged, but there’s a meaningful update to the powertrain menu: the lineup now adds a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel. A sensible way to broaden appeal without touching the sheet metal.

The turbocharged 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel delivers 120 kW (163 hp) and 400 Nm. It pairs with a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

This engine replaces the 1.9-liter turbo-diesel (110 kW/350 Nm) and its six-speed automatic. Towing capacity is now 3500 kg across the board, matching the 3.0-liter versions that remain available. The new 2.2 also brings a start-stop system that shuts the engine off at idle to help reduce fuel use.

Additionally, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder—still offered across the Isuzu MU-X and D-Max ranges—will now also be equipped with start-stop. Choosing the 3.0-liter unit, paired with a six-speed automatic and rated at 140 kW (190 hp) and 450 Nm, adds $2000.

In Australia, the entry-level MU-X LS-M with the new 2.2-liter engine and two-wheel drive is priced at $49,900.
