1,300-hp Audi R8 vs Dodge Demon 170: drag strip battle
The Audi R8 Twin Turbo has entered hypercar territory, delivering a staggering 1,300 horsepower from its heavily modified 5.2-liter V10. Upgraded by Dragy Motorsports, the German supercar recently proved its muscle on an airstrip, setting times that rival the world’s most extreme machines.
During the official run, the R8 completed the quarter mile in 9.58 seconds at 169 mph (272 km/h). It also recorded 6.64 seconds at 129 mph (208 km/h) over the 1/8-mile, and 14.27 seconds at 204 mph (329 km/h) over the half-mile. Impressive as these figures are, they still fall short of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, which remains one of the quickest production cars ever.
The Demon 170, with its 1,025 hp supercharged V8 on E85 fuel, rockets to 60 mph in just 1.66 seconds and covers the quarter mile in 8.91 seconds. Despite being discontinued in favor of the new Charger, it continues to set the benchmark for muscle car performance.
Even so, the Audi R8’s numbers highlight the potential of modern tuning. With over 300 hp more than the Demon, it shows how German engineering and forced induction can transform a naturally aspirated supercar into a drag strip monster.
The short clip of the run — under two minutes long — captures the spectacle. For enthusiasts, it’s another reminder that the horsepower wars are alive and well, pitting American muscle against European precision.
